Belgium Festival will listen to “Los Niños Cantores”
Ecuadornews:
The musical project of MIES brings together children from different areas of Quito for the eradication of child labor. The choir will travel to Europe to perform this month.
Behind the face of each child who works can hide an artist who dreams of scenarios and applause, but their daily work does not allow their vocation to be born.
That changed ten years ago with the plan Los Niños Cantores del Pueblo, a musical choir formed for the eradication of child labor, through the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) and the Ono Zone Pro Music Corporation.
The project welcomes children at risk from peripheral urban sectors of Quito, such as La Pulida, People’s Committee, Fight of the Poor, and others.
In a decade the group has offered an opportunity to hundreds of children from the capital to explore their talent, at the same time they combine their study schedule with music.
The effort has already reaped its fruits, as Children of the People will participate in the World Youth Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium, this month. This was announced Magdalena Soto, director of the group.
“It will be from April 26 to May 2. The minors were qualified after sending a video with a subject in French. Go 4,000 children of the world. ”
At the opening of the European event there will be 12 selected countries and for Ecuador, Los Niños Cantores will interpret “Un bitumen, un corazón”, a song written by a boy from Quito.
The group has already presented several productions, such as the album Por ti vamos a vencer (2015). And in the same way he has exposed his talent in the country.
The project, which was born in 2008 as part of the MIES, conceived art as a tool for social transformation for the regeneration of family ties
Soto affirms that the musical plan serves about 180 children, who were previously evaluated by managers of the entity with a view to the eradication of child labor.
“80% of the children had been workers, and the rest is prevention.”
In this way, instead of working, children – from 5 to 17 years old – are dedicated to developing artistic work.
“Musical tools are used for their development, this activity generates identity and security.”
The growth of the program participants has been progressive. “We started with 60 and we got 300 in 2013,” says the director.
The children of the plan begin their preparation with choral rehearsals and with the execution of instruments, be they wind, percussion or strings.
Thus, the training can last from 6 to 8 months, but regardless of the time, it is the musical experience that changes their lives.
Like Anthony Minda, a 14-year-old student who already dreams of continuing to cultivate as an artist.
“I like music and the time we spend here with my friends is unique,” he says smiling.
Or Danny Castro, 15, who lives with his family in Atucucho, in the northwest of Quito.
“Los Niños Cantores is a very good process to demonstrate the talent of children and young people. I always liked music, and now I interpret it “.
They comment that their essays are three times a week and in the afternoon.
Of the more than 300 children who have gone through the Children’s Singing program, many are already university students and are the main fans of the group, because it helped them to have a different opportunity and they continue to sing for life.
