‘Bolillo’ Gómez assumes for second time the technical direction of Ecuador
Ecuadornews:
The Colombian Hernan Dario ‘Bolillo’ Gomez was presented on Wednesday in Guayaquil as the new coach of Ecuador, a position he assumes for the second time, and in his first statements said he trusts the union as a catalyst to achieve qualification to the World Cup of Qatar 2022.
“United let’s get ahead. Together we are stronger and things are achieved when there is union, when there is love, when there is a sense of belonging and when we get together good people, “said the coach who achieved the first classification of Ecuador to a World Championship: the Korea- Japan 2002.
Their particular way to unite and motivate can be from this Wednesday the recipe that Ecuador was looking for after being left out of the World Cup in Russia.
‘Bolillo’ said in his presentation to the media, after signing a mandatory contract, that “soccer players in Ecuador there are any amount”, but promised to turn them into “good people and be a professional as people, to be good soccer players “.
The technician acknowledged that he was very happy to be “here in my house, a house I never forgot” and said he felt “a love for Ecuadorians anywhere in the world where I find them”.
For his part, the president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), Carlos Villacís, described the new coach as “an Ecuadorian, because in his heart was always imbued with an immense love for the tricolor.”
“Hernán,” he said, “returns to his home, to his national team, with more experience in qualifying rounds, in world championships” and stressed that he will show “100 per cent in the service of Ecuador and his team.”
The president of the FEF added: “We are against time, there is a lot to do and we have to start working now”, before giving value to Ecuadorian players both nationally and those who work in international leagues, in addition of the combined Sub’20, which highlighted its great potential.
Villacís hoped that “the phrase of the yes can resound again”, coined when “Bolillo” awoke the World Cup dream in Ecuador.
The three-time World Cup coach (with Colombia in France 1998, with Ecuador in Korea-Japan 2002 and with Panama in Russia 2018) today takes his second challenge with the Andean tricolor.
After qualifying Panama for the first time in a World Cup, Gomez became the second coach to take three different teams to an ecumenical meeting.
The only one that surpasses this mark is the French Henri Michel, who did it with France in 1986, Cameroon in 1994, Morocco in 1998 and Tunisia in 2002.
But while in Ecuador some applaud the return of Gómez based on recent results, such as having taken Panama to the World Cup in Russia, others consider that it is not the right one.
They argue that in the recent World Cup tournament, Panama was beaten 6-1 by England and both the isthmus and ‘Bolillo’ were last in the competition, in 32nd place. (I)
