Boston bombing suspect blames his brother and his religious motives

Posted On 23 Apr 2013

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, underwent the first interrogatory at the hospital, in which he blamed his older brother, Tamerlane, who died while fleeing the police, of having planned the terrorist attack with religious motivations. Dzhokhar also revealed that he and his brother acted alone.

His remarks came from the hospital ward where he is recovering after a confrontation with the police the day he was captured. Tsarnaev is still connected to a respirator, so when he was communicating, he did it through written statements and gestures.

The suspect said that his brother, was the mastermind of the whole operation, and that his goal was to vindicate Islam. Moreover, he dismissed any sponsorship by any terrorist organization.

The young man from Chechnya and legal resident in the United States, has already been indicted and will be judged by a civil court for use of weapons of massive destruction. Tsarnaev could be sentenced to death if found guilty.

According to the judge Maianne B. Bowler, upon being charged, Tsarnaev was “awake, mentally lucid and in his right mind.” When asked if he could answer questions, nodded, since he cannot speak from a wound in the neck. He just said one word, “no,” when asked if he could afford a lawyer.

Meanwhile, yesterday the U.S. Senate debate continued over the law that will legalize 11 million “illegal inmigrants,” day that was peppered with arguments based on the attack in Boston that could affect decisions in favor of migrants, as the authors of the bombs were two brothers  from Chechnya.
