“Calle 13” will be Awarded for the Use of Social Networks to Change the World
Rene Perez (AKA Residente) and Eduardo Cabra (AKA Visitante), both leaders of the Puerto Rican group Calle 13, will be honored at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas, for their contribution to innovate in the use of social networks to transform the world.
Perez and Cabra will receive the award ‘Leaders of the Revolution’ from the festival director Hugh Forrest, who pointed out that Calle 13 was chosen for inspiring change through digital platforms. The awards will take place in legendary Mexican guitarist Carlos Santana restaurant’s “Maria Maria”.
“These social revolutionaries are showing that they can mobilize local and international causes, both on and off the Internet,” said Forrest and noted that the winners “are helping to build communities and to spread positive change by connecting and educating people “.
“In partnership with UNICEF and other major non-profit organizations, Calle 13 uses the music of philanthropic way to inspire and influence changes within and outside the Internet,” said Sebastian Puente, executive director of the advertising firm Cultural Strategies.
