Given the objections of the Committee of victims of crimes against humanity and serious violations of human rights by the difficulty in the country to prosecute the 118 cases contained in the Report of the Truth Commission, the Attorney General, Galo Chiriboga, replied that progress has been made with six or eight of them and the experience to handle these cases is being acquired “while that duty is being fulfilled.”

Chiriboga’s answer comes just days after representatives of this Committee submitted to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in Washington, the current status of implementation of the 155 recommendations of the Report of the Truth Commission.

According to Clara Merino, president of this Committee, among the cases of little progress in five years is the lack of resources and expertise of the Prosecutor in charge of these cases and the lack of cooperation of organizations to access public information.
