Catalonia complies with symbolic vote for independence
Catalonia complies this Sunday with a symbolic vote for independence from Spain in a query without any legal value, after the Spanish Constitutional Court decreed its suspension.
More than 1.1 million people, of 5.4 calls to participate in the consultation day have deposited their ballotup to half day, the regional government said.
“Thousands of citizens are participating freeform to express their views on the political future of Catalonia” said the number two of the regional executive, Joana Ortega, announcing the first data participation from Barcelona.
Determined to achieve high participation which gives political legitimacy to maintain its pulse with Madrid regional government opened the voting to residents in Catalonia over 16 years, including many foreigners.
The Catalan Government of Artur Mas, asks a double question: “Would that Catalonia be a State and if so, do you want that this state be independent?.”
Preliminary results are expected on Monday morning.
