Yesterday, Assemblyman Cesar Montufar (left) was named presidential candidate for the National Coalition movement

Assemblyman Cesar Montufar, was chosen yesterday as presidential candidate within his movement National Coalition (Concertación Nacional) for the 2013 elections.

Juan Carlos Solines, president of the movement, argues that “the goal of presenting a presidential candidate is to offer a proposal to Ecuador”; “is not about opposing the government, but to present an alternative to unite the Ecuadorians,” he added.

Montufar’s selection as a presidential candidate in the group, was made through a convention of the movement at its headquarters in northern Quito before nearly 80 supporters.

In his acceptance speech, Montufar said he accepted the nomination with the challenge of “giving back a democratic country to Ecuador”, and on the issue of forged signatures, said that the National Coalition movement “will not be deleted from the ballot.” (MZ)
