Chavez will Register his Candidacy Despite his Health Condition
Venezuela‘s President Hugo Chavez will register his candidacy tomorrow to seek a second term in the coming October elections, despite having a complicated cancer.
The president, 57, said he will submit to the headquarters of the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) to formalize his decision. And supporters of his movement will be summoned to accompany him.
Chavez has over 13 years in command and seeks another term of six more, although in the last 12 months has been operated three times, has undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments and a tight cycle of convalescence.
He said he hopes to win this election with 10 million votes of an electoral register of 19 million voters, and thus defends the privileged position he holds in the polls over the opposition candidate Henrique Capriles. (MZ)
