Chavez’s cancer returns and Nicolas Maduro will assume the presidency of Venezuela

Today, Venezuelan Vice President and Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro assumed the presidency, after the succession of President Hugo Chavez, who returned to Habana, Cuba to subjected himself to a new medical treatment after malignant cells were detected in the same area where he had a cancerous tumor last year.
The National Assembly (unicameral Congress) authorized Maduro to take office.
Chavez asked yesterday for the support of Nicolas Maduro “if something happens”. In case of death, the Venezuelan Constitution establishes a new call for elections.
The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, announced through a national broadcast that he would travel back to Cuba to have a surgery for the cancer that affects him for a year and a half.
