Chevron Filed a Lawsuit to Block Failure in Ecuador
Posted On 21 Apr 2011
U.S. oil company Chevron announced today an amendment to a lawsuit in a New York court, which seeks to prevent the recognition and enforcement of a ruling against the company due to environmental damage in Ecuador. Chevron said there was “new evidence of fraud in the failure in Ecuador.”
An Ecuadorean judge decided in February that Chevron had to pay 8,600 million dollars due to pollution in the 1970 and 1980 by Texaco, a company that was later bought by Chevron Corp.
Chevron appealed that ruling and also launched a series of lawsuits to ensure that a failure in Ecuador can not be applied outside the South American country.
