Chief of Police Apologizes
The new General Commander of the Police, Patricio France state last night a heartfelt apology to the Ecuadorian people and to President Rafael Correa regarding the uprising of September 30 by a group of the law enforcement.
During the broadcast that lasted seven minutes, the officer pointed out their respect for the competent authorities, he also added there will be internal actions.
The Chief of Police stated that during the attack against the President, members of the law enforcement protected him and one of them perished during the rescue. Franco also expressed his commitment of institutional transformation.
A video transmission explained that the Police are a civil institution of over 40,000 members whose main objective is to offer safety and protection. The General Commander gave the statements of several officers that expressed the bad moment they currently seek to overcome and that the Government has given them implements to improve their work.
Meanwhile, General Wilson Alulema, Chief of Staff said that police officers mustn’t stop fulfilling their duty. General Director Rodrigo Suárez said that an internal restructuration is underway.
