Chile says that publication of the new map of Peru is “a provocative attitude”
Posted On 22 Aug 2014
This week, the government of Peru released the official Peruvian cartography, that corresponds to the implementation of the January judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In response, the Chilean authorities pronounced and cataloged the publication of the map as “a provocative attitude” from Peru.
Heraldo Muñoz, Chilean Foreign Minister, said: “The opinion of The Hague did not rule on the land boundary, so in the Peruvian document, issues that exceed the provisions of this failure are discussed”.
Chile maintains that in its lawsuit, Peru never said there would be a difference between the starting point of the maritime boundary and the endpoint of the land boundary between the two countries.
