Chiriboga asks Italian Ambassador for prudence
Ecuadorian Attorney General, Galo Chiriboga, was upset with the statements made by the Italian ambassador in Ecuador, Gianni Picatto, on the case known as the “Narcovalija” (Diplomatic suitcase) at the time of asking him to get better informed, said that his statements “shows poor knowledge and prudence that an ambassador must have.”
The Italian diplomat, in earlier days, told the El Comercio newspaper that neither the prosecution nor the Foreign Ministry asked them about the cocaine that was seized in Milan and was transported in a diplomatic suitcase from Ecuador. That comment was rejected by Chiriboga, who said that it is “clearly wrong”, especially because the investigation of this case did not require, necessarily, to go through the Italian embassy to request the International Criminal Assistance.
Note that for the crime committed in Italy there are four Ecuadorian prisoners while in the country, so far, there is not a single person who has been syndicated as author, accomplice or accessory to the crime, which has raised the questioning from the opposition, mainly to the prosecutor’s actions.
