CIA Agents Operate on Syrian Border

It has been revealed that American secret service operatives are distributing illegal assault rifles, anti-tank rocket launchers and other ammunition to Syrian opposition. These activities are conducted due to some rebels’ links to al-Qaeda.

The report informed that for several weeks, officers based in the southeast Turkey supervised the flow of illegal arm to numerous opposition factions ready to fight the regime of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. However some rebel groups are linked to terrorists groups such as al-Qaeda. Now the CIA mission must be careful not to arm proven terrorists by mistake.

The NYT source, an unnamed Arab intelligence official, revealed that American officers are gathering information on Syrian opposition groups and recruiting informants among their ranks. The source indicated that CIA operatives might be helping the rebels in order to organize a rudimentary intelligence organization.

CIA agents have reportedly not set foot on Syrian soil. (AV)
