Posted On 21 Feb 2017

The sit-in began last night after a call made through social networks. Hundreds of Ecuadorians gathered at the exteriors of the National Electoral Council, and their presence has increased in the streets of the Ecuadorian capital.
In the group there are many sympathizers of the CREO party, led by candidate Guillermo Lasso; and other discontent citizens carrying tricolor flags. The six de Diciembre Avenue has been closed due to the presence of these demonstrators; The Army and the police have reinforced security.
On Monday, dozens of Lasso followers continued to be concentrated in front of the National Electoral Council (CNE) in Quito in a vigil to demand transparency in the scrutiny.
“We have spent the night in vigil precisely because the objective is to monitor that a fraud is being made, which is clear, of course. The government is trying to steal the will of a people who want a change,” businesswoman Lyda Alzate stated.
At dawn, as the count was progressing extremely slowly in Moreno’s favor, Lasso’s vice presidential candidate, Andrés Páez, denounced a fraud in progress, which was denied by the electoral authority.
