Last Friday, former Assemblyman Clever Jimenez brough before the International Criminal Court in The Hague, a complaint against President Rafael Correa. He is already back in the country to explain the contents of the document.
He submitted more than 100 cases that, according to Jimenez, demonstrate political persecution and asks the Court to determine whether these constitutes a crime against humanity in accordance with Article 7 of the Rome Statute, which states that the figure is met when “persecution of a group or collectivity with its own identity based on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender reasons (…).”
The legal Secretary of the Presidency has downplayed this complaint.
