CNE approved report to revoke “Chato” Castillo as mayor of Loja
Ecuadornews:
The Plenary of the National Electoral Council (CNE), in Ordinary Session No. 19, held this Tuesday, April 17, through Resolution approved the technical report regarding the verification process of the signatures presented by Mr. Segundo Armijos Armijos, to proceed with the revocation of the mandate of the mayor of the canton Loja, José Bolívar “Chato” Castillo.
The petitioner, together with the constitutional, legal and regulatory requirements, submitted 6,316 forms with the signatures of the signatures to proceed with the request for revocation. Of these, 27,764 records were validated.
Therefore, it complied with the requirement of citizen legitimacy to summon the citizens of the Loja canton to a referendum for the revocation, corresponding to 12.5% of the voter registry of said jurisdiction used in the last electoral process (21,996 registrations).
According to Armijos, leader linked to the Provincial Union of Taxi Cooperatives of Loja, the “Chato” chases the drivers with high fines and says that the mayor would not be fulfilling their constitutional and legal functions. He even affirmed that Castillo approved resolutions that gave steps to “photomultas” in the city without the approval of the Cantonal Council.
The burgomaster, on previous occasions, has stated that he is not worried about the recall process. So far there is no official statement from the mayor after the decision of the CNE. (I)
