CNE proceeds not to deliver signatures forms to Lasso and Montúfar

Guillermo Lasso and César Montúfar have not yet received the notification from the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym). On Monday, the Plenary of the electoral body decided it was not appropriate to hand them overthe signature collection forms, to promote a popular consultation against indefinite reelection.

Juan Pablo Pozo, one of the council members, explained that the resolution of Plenary of the CNE does not deny the query but rather the delivery of forms.

“It is a political, not a legal decision,” says Lasso, who expressed having a feeling of helplessness because it comes toanother case of “disrespect.”

Pozo commented that this is an amendment to the constitutional regulations. “They are talking about constitutional matters,” he said with reference that the colletive Compromiso Ecuador must first go to the Constitutional Court.
