Coffee consumption has doubled in 20 years

“So much coffee was never consumed in the world than in the last 20 years, we have practically doubled the rate of growth,” said Robeiro Oliveira, director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) in Bogota.
Oliveira, on a visit to the VIII fair of specialty coffees ExpoEspeciales, which began Thursday and ends Sunday, was optimistic despite the gloomy outlook for producers by the rainy season in Brazil -the main world producer,- the drought in Colombia, and the rust plague in Central America.
The increase in global demand for the grain, “which has a steady upward trend, averaging 2.5% per year,” draws a smile to this Brazilian head of the ICO since 2011.
