Colombian Narco-Criminals Ringleader Was Arrested in Guayaquil
Ecuadorian law enforcement officers arrested yesterday afternoon John Jairo Vasco Lopez, alias ‘Nico’, considered the ringleader of the criminal organization ‘Cordillera’ for the Colombian police.
Vasco Lopez arrived in the country with a Colombian woman. At around 1:30pm, both were immediately arrested at the Jose Joaquin de Olmedo Airport in Guayaquil (Ecuador) due to a red alert, after arriving on a commercial flight from Argentina to scale in Peru.
His capture took place amid a police deployment attended by staff of the Unit for Combating the Organized Crime (ULCO) from Pichincha and Guayas provinces, and the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR) in the terminal.
As evidenced by the prosecutor Maria Coloma, Vasco Lopez was arrested for a misdemeanor by failing to submit his travel documents. Later it was confirmed that the foreigner had a red alert from Interpol.
Vasco Lopez was taken to the Judicial Police in Guayas along with his companion, in order to yield his version to prosecutors in Julio Vacacela and Maria Coloma, from the Immediate Intervention Unit, before being transferred to the Administration Police to process the deportation to Colombia.
Police said there were talks between Colombia and Ecuador to begin the extradition process; to make that happen the Colombian authorities sent an aircraft.
Coloma prosecutor announced that at 8:00am today, the Administration will carry out the deportation hearing.
