Construction Chamber of Guayaquil described as an “affront” the recruitment of foreigners to build a public hospital
The Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) would hire a foreign consortium for the construction of the North Hospital of that institution, something that according to the Construction Chamber of Guayaquil is an “affront” to the local industry, “that experiences a worrying crisis.”
That stance was made public by the president of the guild, Enrique Pita, who stated that the work would cost more than $ 200 million and would be built in the former head office of the Social Security, located in front of Los Ceibos citadel.
The construction of the health center, and two more in Quito and Machala, was approved in July 11 by the Board of the Social Security (with votes in favor of the presidential delegate, Richard Espinosa, and the then representative of the workers, Paulina Guerrero).
The Quito hospital would cost $ 256,080,000; the Guayaquil hospital, $ 264.4 million and the Machala hospital, $ 60 million, according to official data.
