Contentious accepts challenge against Arauz and asks the CNE to resolve it
The Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) has partially accepted the appeal against the correista couple Andrés Arauz and Carlos Rabascall , and asked the National Electoral Council to rule on this request, which had previously been rejected by the CNE, in three days.
The challengers are Carlos Arboleda and Wilson Freire. Both question the electoral alliance of Centro Democrático and Fuerza Compromiso Social, arguing that the latter group was eliminated from the Registry of Political Organizations of the National Electoral Council (CNE), after a recommendation in an audit report from the State Comptroller’s Office .
On November 12, the TCE returned the legal status to Fuerza Compromiso Social on November 12 and the CNE qualified the candidacies of Arauz and Rabascall.
The correista party, the Union for Hope Alliance (UNES) has rejected hours before what they described as a “new expansion” of the Court session. They also criticized the decision of the ECA to eliminate the list of candidates for assembly in Galapagos.
Liliana Durán, coordinator of UNES, said that both Mercosur and world leaders have expressed their concern “for the weakened democratic system in Ecuador” and showed a document with the names of the former Lula Da Silva, Fernando Lugo, José Mujica, Tabaré Vásquez , and Evo Morales.
