Cordero is against inviting Catalina Botero
Catalina Botero, the rapporteur of the Interamerican Commission on Human Rights for freedom of expression could not attend the debate regarding the media bill. According to the opposition the critics that the rapporteur made regarding the Communication bill is one of the reasons to deny her invitation to the debate.
Fernando Cordero, President of the Congress, stated that he is not willing to invite Botero since her presence can be used to question the legislative work of the bill. According to Cordero the government is not happy with the involvement of Botero in the development of the debate. Betty Carrillo, from Alianza Pais, was the first to express her contempt regarding this matter.
Meanwhile the opposition was confused by the announcement of Cordero, who received the request to invite the rapporteur. Paco Moncayo stated that the presence of Botero is to help with the communication bill. Fausto Cobo, a member of the opposition, warned that they will insist that the rapporteur be present in the debate of the law. (AV)
