Correa Announces Referendum

President Rafael Correa will convene a referendum to ask the population issues of security, justice and bullfight.

Although is not established a date yet, the topics of the referendum will be: Revocation Rules of detention for prisoners without trial for a year, alternatives to custodial remand and the possibility of banning bullfighting.

According to the Secretary of State, the calling for referendum does not need to go through the National Assembly for approval. So the Constitutional Court has 50 days to issue a ruling. After this, a response should be sent to the National Electoral Council in order to convene the referendum in 45 days.
