Correa Asked For Vistazo to Get Sanctioned
President Rafael Correa, in his national broadcast held in the Galapagos Islands, asked the electoral authorities to put a sanction to Vistazo magazine. The President said, in his opinion, the magazine infringed on the referendum’s eve.
“Vistazo, on May 6, brazenly published all the questions in which (people) should vote No, this is an infraction and should be fined,” said the president.
The president was referring to a publication, entitled ‘A resounding No’, whichdid an analysis of the reasons to vote No in referendum questions 3, 4, 5 and 9, relating to the Judiciary Council changes, the limitations on ownership, and the distribution of content in the media.
The law establishes a 48-hour silence time before a referendum.
The issue of Vistazo magazine began circulating since last Wednesday May 4th.
In the state TV channel, el Ciudadano, the president of the Electoral Tribunal (TCE), Tania Arias, said the case has not yet come to that dependence.
Meanwhile, the TCE processed a complaint from the Ministry of Policy against Hoy newspaper, for an alleged publication of unauthorized advertising.
