Correa assures he is facing an “economic war” like Maduro in Venezuela

Posted On 14 Dec 2015
economia-ecuador-ecuadortimes-ecuadornewsThe “economic war,” a phrase used by the Venezuelan Government to excuse the economic crisis, was also used by the ruling party during the last weekly address.

Without thinking that this could happen in Ecuador, earlier this year, during his appointment as Pro Tempore President of the Celac, President Rafael Correa demanded to stop the “economic wars against Venezuela.”
He did it again, two months later, from Uruguay, following the inauguration of his counterpart Tabare Vazquez. When being consulted by journalists, Correa stated without ramblings that “what Venezuela lives is an economic war” and, this time, he added that this practice was being applied against “the progressive Governments.” He did not precise if Ecuador, as it was expected, was included in that undefined group of countries.
The proper name would appear first in the words of little cautious Venezuelan Chancellor Delcy Rodríguez, who, on August 13, while workers and indigenous movements of Ecuador held the first strike against the Government of Correa, she summarized the complex analysis in a Tweet: “In Ecuador they apply the same tactics as in Venezuela: economic war,” Rodriguez said in a series of tweets in which she managed not to point out responsibles.

Finally, the euphemism appeared for the first time in President Correa´s speech, during a weekly address dedicated to promise the improvement of the economy in 2016.
“We have had a political struggle, a showy struggle. Now they want to fight an economic war against us,” he said.
For its part, the opposition dispatches the debate, not without laughters: “the limit of the demagogy is the coldness of the disastrous economic numbers.”
