Due to the fact that in its seventh Congress, the Sarayaku community decided to provide security and stability to Cléver Jiménez, Fernando Villavicencio and Carlos Figueroa, sentenced for slander against the Government, President Rafael Correa accused the community to seek confrontations with the Government. In addition, the President dedicated several minutes to talk about the topic during his Weekly Address from Genoa, Italy.
The Amazon community resolved five points, all around the fugitives. As well as protecting them, they will provide physical, moral and psychological support, they will call on President Correa to respect the laws and international treaties, they will communicate with the Inter-American Court of human rights, and will make a call to the international community.
On Friday night, following the difussion of the resolutions, the indigenous community reported two statements denouncing an intrusion from the police and the army.
The Conaie also reacted to the incursion. Its President, Humberto Cholango, asked the Ministers of Interior and defense that do not incite to indigenous peoples and let them finish their Congress in peace.
By the same subject, Correa devoted several minutes to respond to the Inter-American Commission on human rights (IACHR) and the Spanish newspaper El Pais. To The Commission he said that only the Inter-American Court may request measures precautionary.
For the Iberian newspaper criticisms were detailed. He claimed them for 52 negative reports about Ecuador and which, according to him, they never contrasted the information with the Government.
