On his every Saturday weekly disertation, President Rafael Correa gave the name of the cop that, according to him, was one of the main responsible ones for the police uprising that took place on September 30th.

According to Correa, Luis Aníbal Martínez Vilañez, former Police Sargeant and member of GAO (Grupo de Apoyo Operacional) would be one of the main leaders of the police uprising on September 30th (30-S).

“This is one of the main leaders of the uprising, it had nothing to do with salary matters, he was being investigated for assault on Human Rights and has contacts with Sociedad Patriótica (a Political Party that opposes with Correa’s political ideology). He is one of the cops who said ‘kill the President’ but also through radio he uprised the troop. He is among the ones who misinformed, he is one of the most aggresive ones” said Rafael Correa.

Correa also added that this event were ‘very serious’ and that no amnesty will be given to the cops who were responsible for the incidents. “

The Ecuadorian Prosecutor has made several investigations to identify the responsible ones  behind the September 30th Police Uprising, but has not given any names yet.
