Correa insists in nationalizing information

President Rafael Correa
President Rafael Correa said that if the government controls the information it would not mean an act against independence of the Nation, “That would mean that justice, in any country, is controlled by the government because it is an function of the state,” he said.
During his trip to Spain due to the XXII Latin American Summit, said the information could become a function of the state and reiterated his position about freedom of Information, stating that it should not be in the hands of private businesses looking for profit, “when a right is something that nobody can take away from us“.
Correa, who at talk in the country with journalists ratified his position, concluded questioning the work of the private media. According to him, “If they have to take that right away from me just to earn som profits, they will certainly do so.“, and said that the measure would not benefit him because it would be valid after he leaves office.
