The President of the Republic, Rafael Correa, was responsible for opening the polling day at 06:35 this Saturday. During his speech he made ​​the call to the Ecuadorians to come to the polls.

“The constituent power only belongs to the people and nobody can take away that right from them (…) Today the citizens will take their own decisions (…) We cheer the crowds that will take part of this process,” Correa said.

“Nothing and nobody will stop this hurricane of sovereignty and dignity, and those who conspire in the shadows must know it: the people will be in the streets today to defend the most democratic process in the country, ” he added.
