Correa Seeks to Fulfill the Legislative Agenda
Today the government of Rafael Correa and the assembly block of the political party “Alianza País”, seek to solve the key points in the legislative agenda.
Since 12:00 am (GMT) in the Carondelet Palace, the President would meet with the Assembly members for lunch and start a coordination job for the legislative agenda until the end of the functions of the current assembly.
Outstanding issues still remain such as Correa’s letter in which he questioned the work of the Assembly, the complete ban of the Legislative Function Bill, the delayed payment of salaries and the anticipated announcement of a ban to the new penal code.
The last mentioned issue, the draft new Penal Code, is currently stalled in its development due to the criticism of its content, however, five days ago, the president asked the Assembly to expedite the analysis of the project.
It should be noted that the present Assembly will run until May 13, 2013, after that date the new assembly, selected on the next runs, will be effective. (ARL)
