Criminal and administrative proceedings against the opposition follow the interests of the Government
In Ecuador, a group claims that the criminal and administrative proceedings against the opposition follow the interests of the Government. That was the main conclusion reached by some expertes in Huiman Rights in the Forum: “Justice System as an instrument of political persecution”. The event was realized his past Wednesday in the Guayaquil Convention Center.
In the same event, there was an act in which the participants discussed persecution. María Dolores Miño, another specialist in the topic, expressed that the justice is not independent nor impartial in this country; she also remarked that the judicial processes are not respected, violating the international agreements.
Juan Vizueta, penal law professor, stated that the Goverment has an ongoing campaign to silence the voices of the opposition. “We want to leave a constance that in Ecuador there is no rule of law, we have no democracy, there is no independent judicial system”, explained. (I)
