Cristina Fernandez is Undergoing Thyroid Cancer Surgery
Posted On 04 Jan 2012
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer, which was discovered during a routine medical visit at the end of December.
Doctors say that she has a good chance of recovery since the disease was diagnosed in an early stage.
Dozens of supporters have gathered outside the Austral University Hospital in Pilar (40 miles from Argentine capital Buenos Aires) carrying get well messages.
After the surgical procedure, Fernandez is going to rest until January 24, meaning Vice-President Amado Boudou will be in charge during her absence.
