Cristina Fernández Operation Was Successful

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner

The operation of President Cristina Fernandez was a success, Argentine media said.

“The surgery on President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was carried out without any complication,” presidential spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro told reporters. Fernandez will spend 72 hours in the hospital and then she will be movilized to her residence to rest.

Doctors removed the president’s thyroid gland during an operation that lasted some 3-1/2 hours. “That is the appropriate procedure,” said Oscar Levalle, chief of endocrinology at Hospital Durand in Buenos Aires. “This is a relatively common pathology and has a very good prognosis … she should recover well.”

The specialists are very optimistic about the recovery of Fernandez, over 90 percent of patients overcome thyroid cancer.
