Marjeh square blasted by bomb

This Tuesday a bomb exploded in the center of Damascus (Syria) and killed 12 people, said state television, a day after Prime Minister Wael al-Halki survived an attack on his convoy in the center of the Syrian capital.

State media reported that 70 people were injured, some seriously. For his part the Britain-based Syrian Observatory reported the death of nine civilians and three security men, adding that the death toll could rise.

Although the reason of the attack is not clear. The images shown on pro-government television Al-Ikhbariya showed firemen running through thick smoke after the explosion in Marjeh square. Last Monday, another attack occurred against the convoy of the Prime Minister that left six dead. According to state media rebels are more commonly using this tactic.
