Yesterday, the organization “Asociación Mujer y Dignidad” called for a protest in Lima, which will take place this Saturday, against the Ecuadorian Ambassador, Rodrigo Riofrio, protagonist of the altercation involving two Peruvian women: Cristina Castro, 50, and her daughter Cynthia Nunez, on April 21 at a supermarket.

Rossy Guzman, President of the organization said that they consider incorrect  the reaction of the Ambassador who is representative of a country so she is calling to this demonstration which will take place in the streets of Lima, municipality of Magdalena del Mar and go to the supermarket where the event occurred. Cristina Castro announced that she will participate, as well as the Mayor of the municipality of Magdalena del Mar, Francis Allison, who declared the Ambassador “persona non grata”.

On the other hand, the Governments of Peru and Ecuador called their respective ambassadors, however Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa defends Riofrio, and says that he was attacked by the two women and, therefore, there was no place to accept the request for withdrawal.

While the Mayor of Magdalena del Mar said that citizens and the media will kick Riofrio out  of the country.

Cristina Castro, the woman who fought with the Ambassador at the grocery store, said that the decision of Ecuador to support Riofrio is “regrettable” and thanked the protest march, because it gives her “strength to continue”.

Peruvian media reported that Riofrio left last night from the airport Jorge Chávez on a commercial flight to Quito, to go to the Foreign Ministry of Ecuador to attend the consultation.
