Demonstrations in Ambato-Otavalo and Nueva Loja
A group of villagers of the _ Ambatillo parish detained for several hours an army truck carrying soldiers who were going to protect the transmission towers for television and radio networks located in the Pillishurco hill, in the northwest of Ambato, which forward the signal to the Central Sierra.
Before 18:00, the military were released. The villagers said that this action was part of the national strike.
In Otavalo, Imbabura, protesters closed the two lanes (south and north) of the Panamericana North highway, which connects Imbabura and Pichincha.
At 18:30, soldiers fired tear gas in an attempt to withdraw the demonstrators from the road, the same that threw stones at the police and military. At least about four people were injured.
Indigenous from the Cayambi village, in the Pichincha province, began their journey blocking the Cayambe-Cajas road with eucalyptus trees. The route was enabled approximately at 07:30 by police officers who were mobilized on a bus and a truck.
