Details of the MTV Video Music Awards
The MTV Video Music Awards gala held yesterday in The Nokia Theatre of Los Angeles brought together music and film stars, celebrities, and of course, hundreds of fans.
The show was full of surprises and oddities, starting with the pregnancy announcement of singer Beyoncé Knowles and her husband Jay-Z; also the expected tribute to pop princess Britney Spears, live performances by Lady Gaga as Jo Calderone (her alter ego), the posthumous tribute to Amy Winehouse, where Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars sang Winehouse best hits, and finally, Justin Bieber’s pet: a snake that was wrapped around his wrist all night.
Katty Perry took three astronauts after having 10 nominations. The most representative for her was the Video of the Year award for her song “Firework”. Tyler, The Creator was Best New Artist, while Lady Gaga received the award for Best Female Video and then returned to the stage to receive the trophy for Best Video with a Message for her song “Born This Way,” Likewise; Justin Bieber won the statuette for Best Male Video. The award for Best Collaboration fell on Katty Perry and Kanye West for “E.T.” video. Nicki Minaj took the astronaut statuette for Best Hip-Hop Video. Foo Fighters won the Best Rock Video and Britney Spears won for Best Pop Video for her song “Till the World Ends”. The Latin winners of the night were Puerto Rican duet Wisin & Yandel, who won the award for Best Latin Artist. (BG)
