Diana Salazar is the new Attorney General of Ecuador
Ecuadornews:

The lawyer Diana Salazar Méndez, 38 years old, was designated as the new Attorney General of the Nation, after the session of the Plenary Session of the Council of Citizen Participation and Transitory Social Control (CPCCS).
Of the two challenges against Merck Benavides, who followed him in points, one was accepted and another rejected. In the case of Javier Bósquez, the challenge was accepted.
And after resolving these challenges, the Board plenary proceeded to appoint Salazar who currently serves as director of the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE) and was the best rated of the contest with 88.17 / 100. Now, the Assembly must possess it, once the CPCCS notifies it.
Writer José Regato had challenged Salazar using as proof the newspaper clippings about the disappearance of an international cooperation in the Fifagate case, and hinted that the written exam note was “mediocre”, since he pulled 10/20 and there would be conflict of interests to have been appointed by President Lenin Moreno as head of the UAFE.
She is a Doctor in Jurisprudence and a lawyer, graduated from the Central University of Ecuador, and holds a Masters in Procedural Law, and two specializations: one in Human Rights, for the Andean Unit; and another in Economic Law and Organized Crime, by the University of Castilla.
The new prosecutor of the nation investigated the Fifagate case in which the former president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, Luis Chiriboga, was prosecuted and held prisoner. Later he was called to chair the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit. In addition, he directed investigations into iconic cases of corruption in the country, such as the relationship between former Vice President Jorge Glas and Brazilian cosmocrat Odebrecht.
She replaces the prosecutor in charge Ruth Palacios.
The counselor Xavier Zavala Egas said that it is necessary to await the pronouncement of the National Council of the Judiciary (CNJ) for the designation of the subrogated prosecutor.
About an hour before the session was installed, the Interior Minister and Secretary of the Policy in charge, María Paula Romo, entered the building, but Zavala said that she had not met with her and Luis Macas, who was also present, not answered.
‘I was at a disadvantage’
In the morning, the outgoing prosecutor, Ruth Palacios, offered a press conference to insist that her management, as a subrogation since November, has been independent and justified her latest decisions, especially those of filing a complaint against former President Rafael Correa and to open against Lenin Moreno.
Discarded that these are a response to the process of selection of titular prosecutor that would end up winning Diana Salazar.
“I have complied with a process at a total disadvantage, because attending the Prosecutor’s Office has represented me 12 or 13 hours (daily) and it is not the same as being in any other institution or in free exercise … And above all, (it was ) in between, a trip that took me to be at the airport six, seven hours, a return trip that cost me 16 hours … to get to give an oral test … I present myself to the oral test more asleep that awakens; for those conditions I think I was at a disadvantage, “he explained.
And he announced that a preliminary investigation was opened for the use of presidential aircraft during the last five years of the Correa administration. (I)
