“Don Efra” bike shop: Tradition on Wheels
For so many years, bicycles have been an economic and ecological transport, but they have also be a very good tip to stay healthy. In addition, somehow they seem to be timeless. These are some reasons why it will always be completely justified to have a bike shop business.
While touring in the city of Guayaquil looking for people working in this area we found Mr. Efrain Daza Saenz, a bicycle mechanic with more than 20 years of experience.
Efrain works alone in his shop, located at a poor neighborhood in the south of the city (La 11 y entre Sedalana y Oriente). He does not only repairs bikes, but also gives them maintenance, sells spare parts like tires, breaks, patches, rudders and among others.
It was 2008 when Efrain decided to request a loan to Crusade For a New Humanity Foundation (FCNH for its Spanish acronym) because his tools were spent by the years of use. It was through Angel Suarez, a social worker for this foundation, that he obtained the financial support of $1,000 that he paid with no interests in one year. With this help Efrain acquired a compressor and improved his bicycle shop.
Thanks to this loan, Don Efrain expanded his working schedules to attend his customers. At the shop cyclists visit his so called “Taller Don Efra” especially in the weekends.
