Dozens of people spent their holidays sleeping on sidewalks just to pay their taxes

Last January 1st, national holiday, endless lines of people formed at the outskirts of Guayaquil’s Municipality, who did not hesitate in sleeping outdoors just to get that precious first seats for the first day of property tax income, thus taking advantage from the discounts by settling accounts  early in the new year.

For some people, waiting in those conditions became tradition, such is the case of Doris Santillan, a resident of northern Guayaquil, who says : “it is my habit , I always get up early , one must be organized. I’m here since 05:15 , I come up with just the right money amount, just in case they do not have spare change when collecting.”

To carry out such payments, people should address the following tips:

• Taxpayers that pay up to $ 50, get a 20% discount.

• Taxpayers that pay up to $ 1000, get 10% discount.

• One must also consider an bonus 10% discount over early payment mode , ie, those who pay their taxes within the first 15 days of the present year. After January 16 , that discount lowers to 9%.
