Ecuador and FAO join forces against tilapia virus
Ecuadornews:
The National Fisheries Institute (INP), after discarding the presence of Tilapia Lake (TiLV) virus in domestic breeding farms, contacted the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to report on Found and develop a joint work plan. Thus, through a statement, the INP presented the prevention plan to strengthen capacities in the preparation of diagnostics, emergency preparedness and contingency planning, before any threat of incursion of the virus.
FAO reported last May on the possible presence of the TiLV virus in tilapia in five countries on three continents, including Ecuador. The INP and the National Chamber of Aquaculture immediately emphasized that there is no report of epidemic outbreaks of lethal diseases affecting the local production of tilapia (I).
