Ecuador Asks UN to Support Yasuní-ITT
Lenin Moreno, Vice-President of Ecuador requested financial help, especially to industrialized countries, for the Yasuní-ITT environmental initiative concerning the weather change responsibility.
Unesco declared Yasuní National Park as a world biosphere reserve in 1989. Due to petroleum resources, Ecuador could make 846 million barrels of heavy crude; said Moreno at the UN General Assembly.
Rafael Correa’s government initiative consists in not exploiting this reservoir; thereby cease to emit 407 million tons of carbon, which is the main reason of weather changes; and also to avoid environmental damage in Amazonía.
In exchange, Ecuadorian Government is asking for international support, which equals half of the state’s pension in petroleum explosion case (3,300 million dollars).
On the other hand Lenin Moreno recognized Cuban medical attention in his intervention at Naciones Unidas. “It’s the most solidary country in the latin American continent, it provides help even when it’s not in the best situation right now, Ecuador is truly thankful,” he said.
Moreno also asked ONU to pay attention to the human flow situation, he also requested all countries to sign the Migratory Workers and families agreement, which was subscribed 20 years ago.
He also remarked Ecuadorian position towards all kinds of colonialism and foreign forces occupation of territories, he also affirmed “dialog should always resolve conflicts.”
“We believe in the sovereign right of all the developing countries and the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” he added.
“We want a nuclear weapon free world” he said referring to the countries which use these armaments.
