Ecuador calls several ambassadors for consultations
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patiño, called to the ambassadors of Ecuador in Spain, France, Portugal and Italy, for consultations, after the incident with the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, who last July 2 allegedly was not allowed to move through the airspace of these countries.
The incident occurred due to suspicions of the presence of former agent from the NSA, Edward Snowden, in the plane.
In accordance with diplomatic protocol the call for consultations is a more specific form of highlighting disagreements in the bilateral relations.
Patino said that he have called the ambassadors of Ecuador in those countries so they can provide information on what happened to Evo Morales, and also indicated that they will present a claim to the United Nations because he considers that it was an affront to President Evo Morales.
“Imagine what would have happened if they prevented the aircraft of the President of the United States, the President of France or Spain… surely, their warplanes would have come to rescue their President”, said Patino.
