Ecuador Earthquake: 342 earthquakes were recorded in Ecuador in 2016

From January 1 until yesterday April 18, 2016 at 16:46, 342 earthquakes have beem recorded in 29 regions by the Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School. Of these earthquakes, 59.9% have occurred near the coast of Ecuador, 27 of these events occurred in Manabi. Precisely Pedernales, a Manabi beach town, was the epicenter of the tragedy on Saturday April 16, 2016, which has left more than 300 dead and over 2,000 injured.
By number of earthquakes follow: the area beyond national shores (14); the border region with Peru (11) and Pichincha (11). According to data published by the Geophysical Center, seismic activity of smaller magnitude (1.7 Mw) was recorded on January 21st of this year in Pichincha and of greater magnitude (Mw 7.8) was recorded on Saturday April 16th, 2016. This is the highest magnitude earthquake of the last 18 years.
