Ecuador fishes a 10.3% more tuna
Between January 1st and November 1st 2015 the national fleet caught the 45.3% of the total tuna.
In recent years many vessels of other countries changed their flags (new ships can not sail), due to the strength of the domestic industry: factories and shipyards work all year long in Manta (Manabi) and Guayaquil.
According to the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC), in this part of the world 573 563 tonnes of albacore, bonito, skipjack, yellowfin tuna and bigeye tuna were caught, of which Ecuadorian vessels caught 259 984.
Compared to the same period of 2014, the country increased catches by 10.36% amid lower prices than previous periods, the industry has complained about this.
The use of technology (buoys to detect stains, for example) and repowered boats are part of the success.
