Ecuador, free of foot and mouth disease and ready to export
The world Organization for Animal Health (OIE) gave Ecuador the certificate of country free of foot and mouth disease with vaccination. The certificates were given within the framework of the 83 general session of the annual meeting of the Agency, which ends today in Paris.
In the case of Galapagos, the Organization delivered the respective certificate indicating that “it is recognized as free of FMD without vaccination”.
The Government has invested $45 million in vaccination to eradicate the FMD in the approximately 4.5 million cattle that exist in the country. The disease has been present since 1943.
In the Act were the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (Magap), Javier Ponce; the Sub-Secretary of Livestock, Margoth Hernández; among other authorities linked to the sector.
The Secretary Hernandez, said that Ecuador already exported dairy products with added value to the United States, Venezuela and Costa Rica, and also covered markets from Panama, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Peru and Russia
