Ecuador lost against Switzerland in Davis Cup
A “hard fight,” is the best qualifier for the match in where Stanislas Wawrinka and Michael Lammer beat yesterday Roberto Quiroz and Emilio Gomez 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7/9), 6-4 in five sets that lasted three hours and 35 minutes.
It was a fierce performance of Ecuador, who did not reach the necessary level to avoid the imposing of Switzerland in qualifying for a place in the World Group (first category) of the Davis Cup.
Gomez and Quiroz did not start well, but improved and gained vital points, even in the tiebreak of the fourth set to force the fifth set. It was an even commitment, defined for the Swiss Wawrinka and Lammer, because of the control of small details.
Raul Viver, captain of Ecuador, said that the team responded, without giving up even in the worst times.
Today will be played the singles matches to end the series.
