Universidad Catolica wins and now leads the standings

With a 3-1 victory over Deportivo Cuenca, Universidad Catolica states as leader of the standings of the second stage and as a candidate to play a definition game with Emelec, for the championship.

Catolica impose itself in the midfield, though it cost them to overcome the strategy of Dept. Cuenca until the 14th minute when Diego Benitez scored the first goal. At minut 22, Catolica got the 2-0 when Henry Patta empowered Cuesta who habilitated Andrés Mendoza to score the advantage goal with a powerful free kick. Catholic got the 3-0 at minute 61. Andres Rios made the only goal for the “colorados”.

Catolica leads the standings with 24 points and is ahead of Emelec (21), which has a deferred match with Liga de Quito.

In other results, Emelec lost as local against El Nacional, on Friday, for 0-2 and Independiente won Quevedo by 3-1. Yesterday, Loja won 3-0 at Manta.

Now Deportivo Quito is facing Barcelona and Macara will face Liga de Quito.
