Ecuador on ‘maximum alert’ to prevent foot-and-mouth disease contagion
Posted On 30 Jun 2017
Ecuadornews:
Agrocalidad yesterday decided to prohibit the temporary entry into Ecuador of all types of livestock products (animals of all susceptible species, and its derivated products) from Colombia, which constitute a risk of transmission of foot-and-mouth disease virus.
This measure will apply until the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) notifies that all cases of infection have been closed and Colombia has regained its health status as a country free from the disease.
Following the ICA announcement, countries such as Chile and Peru announced the temporary suspension of imports of Colombian beef. The Foreign Ministry and the Colombian Ministry of Agriculture reported that they are mediating with Russia, Jordan, and Lebanon to avoid the temporary closure of exports. (I)
